On this day in 1866, Lucy Hobbs Taylor became the first woman to graduate from dental school.

Taylor was a teacher in Michigan for 10 years before deciding to pursue medicine. Because she was a woman, she was denied entry to various medical schools and denied entry to the Ohio College of Dental Surgery. The dean of that college agreed to offer her private study in the field and she took in sewing to pay for her lessons. She eventually opened her own dental office in 1861, a common practice at the time as very few dentists had degrees.
In November 1865 after serving patients for four years, she was admitted to the senior class of the Ohio College of Dental Surgery and graduated a year later.

She is recognized as a pioneer in opening the doors for women in dentistry. Each year the American Association of Women Dentists recognizes outstanding women in the profession by presenting the Lucy Hobbs Taylor Award.

Why did this say “baby dad” & not unborn child’s father .. or boyfriend of pregnant mother

My niggas innocent

Columbus Division of Police you can do better! Show a little more respect “Baby Dad “ is definitely disrespectful not only to the deceased young man but his family !

Gunshots? Impossible! They cannot buy or posses handguns until they are 21 in the state of Ohio! 🙄

*childs father. But RIH to the parents, hope they find these demons soon

Ohios legislature needs to adopt the death penalty for all first degree murders

What is ironic now. The news media does not report this stuff anymore. Finally, we are being de-sensitized from these animal related killings. I have no answers.

If POS’s like this are proven beyond ANY doubt that they committed cold blooded murder like this..... 10 days after trial ends. You have 10 days to say your goodbyes. NOT 10 or more YEARS!! And bring back public hangings.maybe that will bring back the un-coolness of being a criminal!!

It devasting that baby doesnt have a mom or dad over something so senseless. I cant even imagine what was going through her head knowing she wasnt able to protect her own unborn child. I worked with her she was excited that she was becoming a mom . Im 36 weeks myself and sometimes I just cry because she didnt get the chance to hold him , see him and the child was born in such chaos, but here I am about to have my baby. Life is very UNFAIR and just thinking of this whole situation breaks my heart . Luckily god had plans for markeith and he made it I prayed everytime I seen him on here. Thats a miracle baby. 💜

They are not kids these are adults and should be treated as such.

😔😔😔😔 this hurts seeing this...so many lives messed up behind these two kids...

Cousins I promise we will get justice for you all I am so glad that Markeith is finally home and he will know that you both loved him

Two people died and everyone is worried about the pronounce of baby's dad.

Their life is now gone at an early age smh !!! How you dare kill anyone let along a pregnant woman !!! I hope you two burn in hell , I hope you two have bad nightmares and wake up sweating and scared !!!! A little boy is now without his mother and father bc of what ??? Smh just die

This is awful and yaw stuck on them saying baby dad in the post when it actually says Baby Father maybe CPD edit the post however yaw stuck on the wrong things... a baby has come into the world without either parent to care for them.

These two were scheduled to interview at my company. Too bad, they would have made excellent nuclear engineers. There now you can rip this and not the baby dad remark! Sorry your feelings were hurt! People are dead!!! And you focus on that!

Kill them immediately 😒 NO MERCY ! they could’ve hurt that beautiful baby but god has plans for that beautiful baby !

Although other words could have been used, Columbus Division of Police wrote Baby's dad as in the dad of the baby. Its the possession of the baby who is still living not babydad which would be the urban term used to describe Keith's relationship to Marlazia Praying for justice for both of them. Rest in peace

Rest In Peace to the young couple that lost their lives and will never get a chance to watch their son grow up. So sad.

Didn't it say Baby's Father? I didn't see anything wrong with that because they were letting everyone know the mother was shot and so was the baby's father. They don't know who's with who when they go to a murder.

😒 Daaaamn They Never Staying Out Of Trouble :(

My son knew the Victims also! This was a horrible, Evil crime! I hope they get the Justice they deserve! Prayers for the Baby and the other young man who was injured!🙏🏻🙏🏻

So sad. When caught, I pray they never see the light of day again

If people who murder people are put to death within 30 days after conviction we would not have this problem let's face it if u kill someone and know it will be 20 yrs before u get executed what have u got to loose if u are a low life

All its a wrap the warrant went in effect 2day yup they goin have em by noon if they not waken they dumb asss up now lol smh

PURSE THEFT AT COMEDY CLUB - RECOGNIZE THEM?

On January 19, 2018 the victim was sitting in the hallway area of the mall at the Funny Bone Comedy Club at 145 Easton Town Center when she got up to go to the restroom & left her purse on a chair.

The male suspect seen in these surveillance photos stole the purse, a brown Coach purse, then passed it off to his female companion also seen in these surveillance photos.

The thieves got away with the purse, wallet, cash & credit cards.

If anyone recognizes either or both suspects you are asked to contact Det. Bokemper in CPD's Burglary Unit at 645-2179 or [email protected]

Why would you leave a purse in a hallway and not take it with you to the bathroom? Pretty stupid in my estimation.

This is stupid how bout y’all do y’alls job and find them 🙄 im sure there is more to police work than Facebook 🗣DO YA DAMN JOB

Do not leave bags unattended......unattended bags maybe be compasactied..... I here this all the time in the airport..... But why leave a bag in a public place

I agree take your purse with you but what’s up with all the thieves in the comments like yeah this was totally ok because she left it. Yes stupid but at the same time if it’s not yours how bout you don’t F*cking touch it.🙄🙄🙄

I mean but why would you leave your purse anywhere ? Smh

Olivia, do better for your children. It’s never to late to make a change. I wish you well.

So sad that this is a main story when opiates are killing 50 thousand plus people a year in our country while our politicians rob us blind.

I think posting pics of these thieves ALLLLLL over social media is a good dose of their own medicine ... NEVER know who’s watching you 😂 Maybe next time these people touch something that doesn’t belong to them they’ll think again 🤔🤔

I have turned in a few things over the years to store managers and service desks. The Mall has an office and service desk. Never for a second thought of keeping anything. That is stealing. Of course lesson learned for owner of purse, but beside the point.

Maybe they needed it to take care of their kids.

Theft? Sounds like “finders keepers”. 🧐

sounds to me like she was giving the purse away

The smile on the guys face makes me sad

Hope she had bed bugs and they took her bag home and now have a few of her not-so friendly house guests...

I think its an excellent idea for the police to post their picture on FB almost impossible to catch the thieves without pictures. someone out there knows these people and they should be caught.

Yep camera's are everywhere , smile your on Candid Camera, they have a cell waiting for the both of y'all. Especially when you use them credit cards. The dude will have his girl use the credit cards while he wait outside

Woman should have know better, ALWAYS TAKE YOU PURSE WITH YOU!

That’s your fault for leaving your purse...smh!

Yes--why did she leave her purse on a chair???

Hopefully the thief gets caught. So unfortunate that this happened. And very grateful that when I left my purse accidentally In a cart that someone was nice enough to turn it in to service desk without taking anything.

Is there a way to make them bigger then repost them? I know they can be zoomed in on when using a phone but can't when using the computer

First off why would you leave your purse by itself?!

Then folks really have to ask why kids shoot others!!!! The comments on here tells all...

What 2 POS!

Nuttin' funny about the CRIME or all the idiotic comments. A crime occurred. What if it had been your property?

Don’t have children you cannot afford to provide for.

You seriously think he's doing this for children? Baby formula is one of the most highly stolen items because of the resale potential. Same with diapers. Diabetic test strips. Do a search at local corner markets. Facebook Marketplace. Yeah, if I knew who he was I'd turn him in in a second. This is a thief. No more. No less.

And the organizations are usually out of these supplies. Anyone who reports this guy is a pos. Not reporting a guy who was desperate and needed supplies for his baby.

He a strong independent man who be takin care of his keids! 🙄

I hope he gets caught soon. He should be out working instead of stealing. There is no excuse for Ohioans being out of work.

Its not up to me to judge. I dont know this mans situation. He was wrong for stealing but desperate people do desperate things some times. It doesnt take much for diapers and formula to add up to 300 dollars. My guess is he didnt steal enough to sell on craigslist. I hope his situation gets better and he knows what he did was wrong. God will take care of the rest.

The formula will be used as a cutting agent for cocaine. The water he stole will be used to heat the cocaine to make crack. The diapers were a cover for if he got caught.

People quit having kids if you can’t take care of them!

I don't know who this is, but maybe list some organizations that supply them for free on this post. I'm not in need of them, personally. But clearly there are people unaware of them.

Link the sources and people that give away formula, water and diapers for free

Please also post links for assistance programs. These items are insanely expensive and considering the amount of dead beat dad's out there, this one is actually trying to provide

Not going to hate on a guy who was trying to feed his kids.

Yeah probably not going to report a person who is desperate to care for their child

I don't know I think he may need it why would a man steal the essentials for a baby if he was stealing to sell then ok why not steal something else if your are going to actually get caught. I'd be willing to pay for some of it I just got this feeling it wasn't him stealing to sell.

And the organizations are only helpful if people know about them.

Can't be mad... gotta do what you gotta do for your kids...I wouldn't turn him in if he was standing next to me...I'd give him a high five

I was definitely thinking he was reselling too when I initially saw the picture, but the water got me... You aren't stealing water to resell. You are stealing water to mix with the formula. This is really sad that he felt there was no other option, but to steal it. I hope his situation improves and he reaches out to resources that can help his family.

Can't believe people supporting this guy. A thief is a thief

No way I’d turn this guy in if I knew him. Clearly trying to take care of his family. If it was my business, no way I’d press charges. I may consider hiring the guy! He certainly has initiative...

If it was for his children or a survival decision he would have stolen the bare minimum to not get caught bc needs to get back to his kids to get the items to them. The way he did it makes me think this was for resale not for children.

It’s not about “needy” thieves ..., there’s a market for this ... open up “marketplace” in Facebook... I see a lot of these items that are sold at half price ... A needy person typically doesn’t steal a cart full of baby items ...

They ain't gonna find him they can't even find stolen vechile smh

Lol some dude saying he's using formula to cut cocaine 😂😂 I'm dying since when does people use formula to cut cocaine ?? Lol

Your *notation at the end is insulting. Whether that’s his reason or likely not... “not worth stealing for” shows that you assume he IS stealing for his family and that they are not worth it... because he had other options... it also shows you have no idea why he resorted to this... “plenty of organization/people” are you guys for real?!? Like there is an abundance of caring and giving for families in need... HA!

One minute, one guy, one store, one City, one State. Stealing is wrong, and who pays more for every item purchased as a result of theft? Each of us!

On this day in 1962, John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth. Glenn entered orbit in the Friendship 7 capsule at 17,544 miles per hour. He circled the earth three times on a mission that lasted about five hours. While in orbit, Glenn radioed back to mission control, “Zero G and I feel fine.” But his flight hit a snag when the ship’s automatic control system failed and a sensor indicated a loose heat shield. The nation held its breath as Glenn expertly maneuvered the Friendship 7 back to earth and splashed down into the Atlantic Ocean, about 800 miles southeast of Bermuda.
After his return, Glenn was hailed as a hero and given a ticker tape parade in New York City.

Isn’t is black history Month? Why aren’t you highlighting the amazing black women who made his flight possible?

I graduated and grew up in his home town. And watched them move his childhood home from where he grew up to its new location and make it a museum. When I was in 4 th grade I watched him go back into space and become the oldest man in space met him several times, very nice and smart man very proud of the history great place to live.

Well remember the day. I sat with a World Globe and followed as The TV was reporting it.

I remember this. It was my brother's birthday and we stayed home from school to watch it on TV. It turns out my Dad had some tiny part in the building of the capsule and couldn't tell anyone till it was over😳.

Watched it live from the Marine’s CO office, NAS Memphis

Remember this day well. Our sccoll did t own a tv. Hell we couldnt get a radio signal so the entire school (probably 900 to 1000 pupils in all 12 grades) walked about 2 miles to get high enough with about 15 transistor radios to listen. I also remember where i was at when JFK and Oswald were killed. Telling my age

I was fortunate to watch the launch... then, as radio reporter in Springfield, I interviewed him five times as he came through town campaigning for senate. Then the competing radio station reporter (who was my roommate)and I were sent to DC to cover the energy crisis. We went to his senate office and first thing out of his mouth was “I can’t believe you competing station reporters live together!” I then got to eat lunch with him years later at a Columbus event. A charmer! Love, Ann

This was Such a Big Deal back then!!!We got to watch it on tv in grade school!I was 8.

I remember this!!!

John Glenn. One of the last American heroes.

We were watching history, and we knew it...such bravery! 🚀

I remember watching with my dad.

Someone should make that into a poster!

Anna M. Pittman Lamontagne

What a very nice man

True hero

Pictured here is American folk artist Elijah Pierce. Pierce was best known for his colorful panels and hand-carved figures illustrating biblical stories, African American history, politics, sports and pop culture.

The son of a former slave, Pierce was born in Mississippi in 1892 and like many other African Americans, migrated North to escape discrimination in the Jim Crow-era South. He settled in Columbus, Ohio in 1923, where he opened a barbershop on East Long Street. In between customers, Pierce would sit in his barber chair and carve, producing hundreds of pieces that he frequently gave away to friends or hung in his art gallery in an adjacent room. It wasn’t until 1971 when his talent was recognized nationally. Friends persuaded Pierce to exhibit his work at a senior citizens' art show. Soon after this show, Pierce’s work was displayed in art galleries in Philadelphia and New York, and in the Smithsonian Institution's Renwick Gallery, among others. His Columbus, Ohio shop is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. #BlackHistoryMonth

Yes on display in canton ohio right now! Amazing

He was a friend of my sister, an artist. I still remember his little studio on Long St.

Neat story ! Sounds like a very talented man !

Yes, I have seen his wonderful work. Columbus has a heart for him.

Class...... this is class at it’s best.

Will have to add this to our must see list!

Wow this is so cool, that's quite an accomplishment. I'm so glad to see his building has been preserved in a world that would prefer to just throw everything away.

My friend in grade school used to get his hair cut by him.

There is a large number of his pieces in the Columbus Museum of Art
