Have you seen these barn paintings around Ohio?

In 2003, Ohio celebrated 200 years of statehood. To commemorate our state’s 200 year anniversary, the Ohio Bicentennial Commission chose one barn in each of Ohio’s 88 counties to paint with the bicentennial logo.

The project began in 1997 as Ohio artist, Scott Hagan, now referred to as ‘the Barn Artist,’ sketched his first, ‘larger than life’ barn painting on the side of a barn in his very own Belmont County. Hagan completed all of the paintings by himself and because he sketched each bicentennial design by hand, no two are exactly the same. By the time the project finished in September of 2002, Hagan had gone through 100 paintbrushes, 645 gallons of paint, and traveled more than 65,000 miles in his truck.

Today, the Ohio History Connection is working on another project with Hagan to paint murals of some of Ohio’s most notable historical figures. Since the project started in 2015, Hagan has painted an image of Ohio’s 19th President Rutherford Hayes on a barn in Sandusky County, Annie Oakley in Darke County, the high school rivalry between the Massillon Tigers and the Canton McKinley Bulldogs in Stark County, and the Zoar Village bicentennial in Tuscarawas County.

We own the Union County, Ohio Bicentennial Barn. Our barn was Barn #44, the halfway point. Then Governor Taft came to our farm and painted a part of it. He also autographed it. We have had the "old girl" repainted once since it was first painted. Stop and see us sometime when you are in Union County.

You bet I've seen them! Always loved our bicentennial barns and still love seeing them around the state. Many are now almost faded out, but some are still being kept up.

I think they are awesome!

Love to see the barns as we travel. Makes my heart sing with Ohio Proud each time.

My great grandfather's barn was chosen for Henry County! ❤️

Whenever I have come back to my home state, I have loved seeing the barns. It makes me appreciate how awesome the Buckeye State truly is. Proud to be from Ohio!!!

Many need repainted....touch-up...

We have been traveling to see the Bicentennial barns. Still have 4 to go.

Don't ever remember seeing the bicentennial barn in Seneca County. I used the Ohio History Connection website to find where it's located. Between Fostoria and Bettsville on State Rt. 12. Using Google Earh I found it. It's very faded, but readable.

Love seeing these.

Where is the Massillon McKinley Mural?

Pretty rustically cool...

BuckeyeBarn

I love seeing these!
